March 21,2009 Saturday

Today things fell apart in the morning because I didn't get ready fast enough to meet up with Erin. But things slowly put themselves back together like they always do. My senora and I have been amazing lately. We talk in full Spanish conversations, and she sits and eats with me, and we are interested in what we each have to say. After I got really sick she changed, so that is great!

I decided to go north to the beaches with the boys. We met at the Arc, and on the way I saw a grandpa kissing a grandsons forehead, and it was the cutest affection ever. We also saw a lady with her boob completely hanging out. She pulled up her shirt at let her HUGE boobs hangout. I could not understand this! But we got on the train and sat on the floor until we got tickets. We saw the beaches turn more sandy in parts and rocky in others. There was a Billabong surfing competition in an area. The waves were huge today, and it looked like Little Mermaid when it hit the rocks. There were surfers everywhere! We finally got off at the last stop and just decided to explore.

Max, T.J, and Justin walked this little town. Old men sat along park benches and we decided to get Catalan coffee cake. I love cute Spanish towns, just like that little hole in the wall bar at Montserrat. We "rode that renfre like the metro, like we owned that shit" back to the neighboring town to hit up the market. T.J was on the other side of the tracks so he ran around the train and did his "hop skip and a jump" to make it in. It was a rush.

In the sister city the market had the best fruit that was cheap and gorgeous. It tasted amazing. The inside joke during the day was we were "helping Spain's economy" by buying something in EVERY store. Max bought a parone, TJ a cup, we bought fruit, the liquor store man thought we were from "Portland" of all cities to name, we bought bread, cork screws, and then at the meat market Justin asked for a kilo of meat. She just looked at him. Obviously that must have been a lot of meat. She asked for how much more and he said "diez mas" and Max and I at the exact same time said "that's a lot mas". We left her a seashell and she asked if it was a present for her and we said yes! It is great. According to Max we went to an indoor Russian market. We bought a playa multiuse ball, and just had a great time exploring the town. The boys always make me laugh. They make fun of me just enough, and know how to have a good time. They mock each other, and just are here to have a good time. Whenever we said an inside joke they remembered and brought it up later. Like making fun of me for the pin wheels.

We finally made it to the beach and played in the huge waves. I tried to pee and the waves took me away. Max showed his creative way to pee. We drank, ate sandwiches and had the perfect beach weekend. Imagine just listening to Jimmy Eat World, Something Corp, Blink 182, and Less than Jake, getting tan in the sun and hearing the ocean. We played beach futball and volleyball and talked. This all sounds lame, but being on the Mediterranean experiencing this Cali wannabee holiday was amazing.

We finally shifted to a hidden valley of sand and danced to Max's mix. I LOVED THE DAY AT THE BEACH. Everything was perfect. And it was like I was one of the boys. I felt totally comfortable and loved my day with them! On the way home we played soccor with some locals who were actually very talented. They got the ball stuck up on the balcony and together everyone created a contraption to get it down... And then five minutes later it was on the roof.

Max and I poned the McDonalds which is our comfort food. There was the fugliest boy on the train and it was so sad. The boys were making comments. ahhh But i had the best beach day :) I LAUGHED THE WHOLE DAY, AND GOT A LITTLE TAN:) PERFECT! I am soooo happy.
and the day isn't over. It barely started...

GIRL TALK NIGHT.....

So tonight was one of the craziest concert/raves I have ever been to in my life. I have been to warped, summerfest, and multiple crazy Minneapolis concerts, but European concerts are much different. Katie, Erin and I met up and headed over to the preplanned pregame bar party at L’Ovella Negra. There were about 40 kids from our program there. I love the cheap pitchers of sangria, and pints of beer! Kids were playing quarters and just having a great time! I love drinking with the group! Our “friends group” kept glaring down a girl we do not like on the program. But the pregaming just started the fun until the concert rolled around. The concert didn’t start until 2:30 am. That is so weird, but that is Barcelona’s style. In the US clubs close by 2, but here that is when it starts just getting started. We waited in line just smooshed together! And when we got in we explored the club before people started pouring in. It was four levels and thousands of people. I can’t describe what the intensity was of the atmosphere. The group we were in decided to go upstairs to a smaller, chiller dance room before the music started. We got a HUGE train going around the room, and the locals were like what are you doing. It was at Razzmatazz and that is already a skastier club. But I guess the more piercings the better! Erin, Katie, and I swung dance with the boys and controlled the whole floor. People had to move to the sides because we were taking up so much space! And when the concert almost started we headed downstairs.

GirlTalk came on. You know why he is so skinny. Every night he just rages the stage until 5 am just jumping with all of the kids dancing on stage the whole time. Max danced the whole time on stage! Erin and I tried getting up, but we got kicked off. Then later I attempted and was successful for about 3 minutes. And after getting pushed off I ran into T.J. We sat up on the roof for a while and we decided to battle the crowds once again. It was like you can imagine a European rave. There were drugs all around, alcohol, and dancing. We danced on a table in the corner and made our way back up front. I love my girlies, but found another group of CIEE people. Erin and Katie found each other in the bathroom! But the intensity was amazing. During Kelly Clarkson “since you been gone” mash up I was placed on someone’s shoulders. We all looked like shit and were sweating. He is talented, but I wish he would have actually spun the mixes like Nasty Monday’s dueling DJ’s. But I guess he does decided randomly what he wants to hear on the spot! Girl Talk for sure knows how to get a Mediterranean city moving. I don’t know how many people were in the four levels of the club, but it was full to capacity! Everyone’s facebook status was “I had the craziest night of my life”, and it’s true.

Everything put together made it the best night! And the Spanish flare made it even better! I LOVED THIS RAVE EXPIERENCE! I COULD BARELY MOVE AND IT WAS BRILLIANT.
Luiz gave me a ride home. And it was the first time I was in a car in a long time! I missed it. And he was like do you want to drive. And its 5 am, and I am like hells no, imagine driving the narrow streets!

TODAY WAS THE PERFECT DAY WITH EVERYTHING BARCELONA HAS TO OFFER.
I wish I knew how to explain how great it was.

March 20,2009 Friday

Sixpacks and Surfboards.
Barcelona spring is in full swing! Everyone is walking around Barcelenetta with surfboards and cans of beer in their hands. The sun is shining, and all the tourists, hippies and locals are coming out. I love all the dreads! I broke my metro pass so I couldn't meet Lainey at the beach, and I didn't have a phone to call her, so I just went myself. I laid on the beach for an hour and slept. It almost made me more tired. But it was amazing. I slept on my backpack, and the sun made me warm and the wind was directly off the water, so I kept getting sprayed with salty water! The waves were huge today so there were about 30 surfers in the water. IT FELT LIKE SUMMER! This is what I wait for every year, to just lay in the sun, and I love that I'm getting it in March and I don't even have to be on Spring break! And just laying in the sun makes me happy.
I went to the gardens today, and Justin and I pretended to take TJ our son. The park was gorgeous. I can't believe this used to be someones personal property. You have the best view of the city, mazes, fountains, grottos and elaborate trees! It was tranquil and quiet. And the boys are so much fun! This park may be one of my favorite places in Barcelona.
Tonight Erin and I drank and the L'Ovella Negra in La Rambla. It was packed, but we just sat and drank sangria and talked. I love Erin so much!

fun spanish facts today...
"you have to take off your glasses, it's not a disco,,," john-"Ahhh shitty"

"What the fuck are even the bases. If i touch you like this am I on 3rd.... john-no cuz 1st and 2nd are allowed and practiced heavily in the club."

Christian teaching slang "to train someone" (basically to rail in old school terms)

"Does cyrannos water down there drinks?"-robbie
"No i watch them pop the tops"-eric
"Well how come I can chug it"-me
"Cuz ur an alcoholic"-robbie
"Agreed."-jeff

"its better to do it drunk"
"But you can't preform as well"
"maybe for you" (talking about human castillas, and other things)

this is why i love spanish...

March 19, 2009 Thursday

I just don't know. This is one of those days. Ahhh I hate this feeling.
A lot of things went wrong today and a lot of things went right. It kills me to live without a phone and Ipod! And then my metro pass ate shit in the club. What to do... It will get better. I think I need to sleep too.
And the quote of the day was "This is how the cookie crumbles".... and it is so true. It is weird. In Spain I can have a bad day, but I still have fun.

I sat on the beach for a while today. I didn't get a tan, and I was very impatient, so I walked along La Rambla instead! And tonight Erin's parents took up to an amazing restaurant. It was so much fun eating as a big group and her family! Also tonight at Cyrano's I played my first half ass game of beer pong. It was with popcorn and tall mixed drink glasses. John and I had to sit at the way end of the table and keep attempting to chuck. The group was getting mad. And we discussed tonight random things about how much we love scooters, but they aren't functional on most city streets because of the cobblestone! I love group nights out! There was a few tables put together and we had the guys discussing march madness, a chunk fighting over wearing the blue sparkly glasses, and then a bunch of smaller ones. I actually talked to a guy who i Saw play at summerfest two and three years ago! What a small world! He was like oh my band plays in Wisconsin, and that led into a "omg what a small world" convo. There was also a lot of drama tonight. And I hate when that happens because I do depend on my friends here for everything, and I hate when we are mad at each other.
I did talk to Natalie today:)
Today is Larkin's bday. I called him and he was actually the nicest to me he has ever been in a long time. But he was shitfaced so who knows. At least he was nice.
we will see how everything plays out with everything.
I guess that is the way the cookie crumbles....

March 18,2009 Wednesday

I am feeling better. I rarely take medication here, I have taken advil maybe 3 times, but I am so happy to be on these pills! My cough is so much better. I slept in late today, and that made me just feel refreshed in general. I know nasty Monday’s pushed me over the edge. But today I realized a lot. I went and sat at the beach today. It was packed, and everyone was tanning. But I couldn’t seem to get tanned! I have decreased my advil consumption, but my mcflurry eating rate has been rising like crazy…. It is amazing here. Oreos, gelato, and hot fudge…It can’t get any better than that… And it made my throat feel better. Maria Rosa has been super sweet. I kept coughing up the pills (that wouldn’t go down because my tonsils were so swollen) and she made me take the pills with honey. And it worked. For dinner she made me my favorite, rice and homemade egg rolls. And she gave me mouse too! And she hasn’t said anything about me waking her up with my coughing!

I realized a lot today. I talked to my friend Stephanie whom I worked with in MN and who is in the MBA program. She is so insightful, and helpful. She understands, and she fell in love, and I am so happy for her. “It’s better to be worn out and a little sick, than to have sat at home and stayed healthy”. She understood why I pushed myself! She is amazing, and last semester was always there to help me with my problems. She used to live in Barcelona, along with so many other cities. She is so smarted and experienced! I really look up to her. She has gone through so much, and still smiles. Ahh she is my role model. She also helped me realize these things.

*I can still work in a small town when I have kids. I realized that I need a big city now. I can’t imagine not living in a metropolitan city in the states or here. It makes my life exciting and there is always so much to do. Why settle young. You should be living life to the fullest, pushing yourself. And I am doing just that. These are the best years of my life, and I love what I am experiencing. I love Minneapolis so much.

*I need to learn to do things more that I should have learned growing up. Cooking and driving stick for example. And how to shoot a gun well. I got most likely to leave Tomahawk, but I do appreciate some aspects about it. But I can’t imagine staying there right out of high school; it’s just not my style. But I am going to be home one more summer. And I am going to learn these things. And spend more time outside. I loved what Tomahawk gave me. High School was amazing, especially junior/senior year. I tell people stories and they still can’t believe some of the fun we had. It was the perfect town, and it did help keep your innocents if you wanted it.

*That I can’t have a desk job. She told me I was a people person and I need a job that has human interaction. I agree with that, and she is helping me brainstorm:) We will see where this takes me. She told me I should work at a chamber of commerce or something. The pay is almost nothing, but hopefully I can make money living in the cities until my 30’s. But I am glad I am on this track.
Stephanie is amazing and insightful. This doesn’t seem like a lot. BUT I KNOW I CAN’T HAVE A DESK JOB.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Tommorrow is my ex’s birthday. We aren’t really on great terms. We try to be, and I really wanted to be, because I can’t imagine life without him because I do still love him. But the yesterday I called him and he was crabby beyond belief. Not even crabby, he just was brief and basically was a slap in the face that I called. I decided that I do need to cut ties, and I texted him that yesterday. I know I will call him tomorrow for his birthday, but today this is where I’m at. I am sick, but I went out for a run. And I ran really far, but I had so much energy. I ran through the palm trees, and to the national palace. That is where the Olympians ran. I could see the torch holder in the background, and the national palaces fountains were all glowing and changing colors. Tibedados cathedral was glowing yellow at night. It was gorgeous. And I just felt relieved. And I can’t explain it. I was listening to Click Five’s second cd which helped me forget about my ex two summers ago. It felt amazing to run through something so gorgeous. But I realized I am over him. I put way too much into trying to get back with him when it should have been him trying. I have kissed guys here, and hung out with ones that make me feel great. And he always says I have drama, well its drama he added to. And I am not trying to bash him, and I want to remain friends, but he just pushed me too far yesterday. I still want to be friends, but we can’t be anything. He was so mean on the phone yesterday. Even when he called me on my birthday at midnight I talked to him. I will call tomorrow and be nice. But I am not going to admit my emotions to him anymore. I will love him for a long time, but the difference is I am stopping the caring part. He told me to get over him. And yesterday I realized I am going to, and am. I may have added drama to his life, but I was good for him and he never appreciated it. Who knows what will happen. It’s all up to him now. I will not initiate anything anymore, but I will be friendly. I have put too much energy into trying to be nice. I will not call him anymore this trip (his birthday doesn’t count). He asked for this. What he did on the phone the other day was the final straw. He says he forgets people to get over things. I am just thinking to the future.

March 17,2009 Tuesday

I was fired up today from last night. And today was a gorgeous Barcelona day. The sun is amazing here! It is so much warmer here then the said temperature, it feels like a Wisconsin summer. My skirts and sandals are out! It was St.Patties’ day, but I realized that most of Europe doesn’t celebrate it. Only the Irish pubs do. So it doesn't seem like such a big deal here. Last year I was in Milwaukee, and that was fun with green beer, and the year before in Puerto Rico (full of boyfriend drama, Caribbean clubs, and pools). But we still went to the pub and tried to bring out the best in our non irish heritage. So Erin and Katie were full bad asses and skipped art, where Eric and I stayed for half. The bar was full of balloons and Eric showed us this drink with Guinness, baileys, and something else that curdles if you don’t chug fast enough. I can’t wait to go to Ireland in April!

But all I want to do is go outside! I walk everywhere just so I can be in the sun.
My bad luck restarted. I don’t have a phone, my metro pass ate the shit, and I am super sick. Damn it. But I can’t get bummed by it. We did a park tour today and I love the Parc Ciudad. They even have a big elephant:) And our history class has some of the funniest groups, but not as funny as Spanish. They all make the trip more fun.

My senora and I talked about boys tonight. I was making a bday present for my ex, and she asked it was my boyfriend here, and that sparked a huge conversation. She had a guy over for dinner, and I asked her if she was dating him. And she said nope. And we had a full flowing conversation in Spanish about dating, and guys. It was actually really nice. Everyone's boyfriends came and visited them for spring break, and she was like show me the boys on your program! She was so into the conversation. I loved how it was so casual and honest!

I had all intentions of going out for St.Pattys. We went to Erin’s hotel, and pregamed. Katie got wine juice boxes, and Jody makes her amazing faces. I have the most amazing friends in Barcelona. They know just how to make me smile, and Katie, Erin, and Jody just care too. Jody can make you laugh, Erin can make you feel good, and Katie can keep it real. The four of us “friends group” just work. We all know how to blend our personalities and make the best friends. I can’t wait for our island getaway next weekend. I love my girls here so much. They make drinking in a hotel room amazing. I love them so much. And they are helping me figure out things about myself and what I should do with my life…They are going to be my best friends for life.

HAPPY 21st Birthday ERIN WISE!
I love Erin so much. She is amazing...

Well today I said goodbye to my mom, sister, and Nicole. I am going to miss them so much. This weekend was amazing. We went hiking in the mountains and went to the beach, and we saw all the amazing sights. I can't wait to see my mom again in a month in Italy:) But it was a perfect weekend!

Today was a very good day despite the fact that my family left. Spanish went by quickly, and we threw together our marketing presentation and it turned out very well! The weather is perfect, people are in shorts, and it makes me love Barcelona even more. The mullets seem to be getting more popular with the warmer weather. No me gusta. But this weather is so perfect!

I paid my bill at San Pau today and it was a much better experience. It was another episode of Grey's with hot young, pierced up doctors. But they were all so sweet, and I'm happy to have headphones again. San Pau is such a gorgeous hospital and I love listening to Phantom Planet and songs from spring senior year when I walk. I walked around Sagrada Familia and I am still amazing with Gaudi. He is my idol for architecture. But back to San Pau. I can't believe how young doctors are (and helpful, but no dead bodies this time!!!

I decided that I am the happiest in March months. Thinking back from Senior year (March was when I was the happiest of all time), and I realized when the weather changes I am just happy. Not necessarily is it the events that happen, but just the atmosphere and the idea of a fresh new start. I was sooo happy senior spring, and T-hall spring made my life, and this spring is unreal. I can't even explain it. I just smile when I walk and I love that feeling. I love spring. And I can feel its here!!!

I went out to dinner with Erin's parents. They are amazing. They took me to a fancy Thai resteraunt and we had a great dinner. They are funny, and such a cute couple. I love Allie and Rachel too. Erin has an amazing family, and it wasn't even like we were in Barcelona for dinner. They had amazing pad thai:)

We pregamed in Erin's room.We rocked out to Super Mash Bros, and drank Champee. I chugged vodka coke thinking it was just coke. Bad idea:) We drank at a french bar and just had a great night! I love drinking with them! They are so much fun, and we can all relate!

Then we went to apollo for nasty Mondays... And it might have been the best clubbing night here all year. Just imagine rock meets punk meets European disco rave. You don't have to grind on a guy, you can spazzy dance in your little circle and everyone dances around you. Nasty Monday is officially a weekly must now

http://209.85.229.132/translate_c?hl=en&sl=es&u=http://www.myspace.com/nastymondays&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dapollo%2Bbarcelona%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG&usg=ALkJrhguL-Nml01w7bqUj0hQZS06CfkX6Q

The crowd there was full of locals, especially those with liprings, bandanas, and ones who skateboard during the day. The background jumbo seen kept playing scenes from boarding areas. It was my kind of scene. The Camden market of dance clubs. I walked in and didn't even know where to start. And the best idea was the lack of expectations to HAVE to dance with a guy. And the punk.old.random.70s rock was amazing. You did get your creepers, but you pull the "eiffle tower", or "dodgee". Guys also like to pet your hair. I danced with some guys who were amaizng and would swing you like you were a flapper during the roarin 20's. And the locals were so much fun. And the club was PACKED beyond belief. But it was enough to have dancing space... I kissed Badger boy during born to be wild, and at the end Johnny and I were rockin out to Green Day getting a crowd going. I LOVE THE PEOPLE'S PERSONALITIeS HERE TOO!
AHHHHH APOLLO IS THE PERFECT CLUB FOR ME AND MY PERSONALITY!

I found the club niche for me:)
I love spring. It brings out the best in me.
